Mushrooms are widely known for their many health supportive properties. Ascent Nutrition’s Agarikon Mushroom is uniquely cultivated from a specific strain and has been verified through genetic analysis testing. This mushroom has been traditionally used to support respiratory, immune and lung function. The Agarikon mushroom has been studied by the U.S. Army and the National Institutes of Health (NIH). Our lengthy and unique growing process ensures maximum active constituent production. Grown in the USA.

Uniquely cultivated from a selective strain verified through genetic analysis testing. A rare and special mushroom traditionally used for respiratory, immune and lung function. Studied by the DOD, NIH and NIAID. Grown in the USA.
We humans share more of our DNA in common with mushrooms than we do with plants.
The compounds that mushrooms create directly support human health in a multitude of ways.
Our mushroom products contain 1,3 β-D and 1,6 β-D glucans, glycoproteins, arabinoxylans, triterpenes, essential sugars (polysaccharides) and antioxidants.
The Greek physician Dioscorides described the Agarikon mushroom as “elixirium ad longam vitam” (the elixir of long life) in 65 A.D. in Materia Medica.
Our Agarikon Mushroom powder (Laricifomes officinalis) is unique because of the strain selection and extended cultivation techniques we use.
The concern that exists with mycelial based powders is that an excessive amount of residual substrate (often oats or brown rice) is left in the final product due to an inefficient conversion of the base material into fungal biomass by the strain and species selected.
The compromised powder in question is left, giving the end consumer a low amount of active constituents, and a high amount of inactive starch powder.
This is a significant issue in the industry as a whole and is a valid concern to consumers.
Our cultivation techniques, strain selection, and commitment to quality ensure that each and every batch is grown to maximum colonization in our laboratories.
This ensures a majority of our organic base substrate is converted into fungal biomass by our superior strains with artful attention to the detail of growth.
Our darker colored powder is the result of this process and gives visual representation of the presence of active constituents.
Not all strains of a given species are created equal. Closely observing strain performance over time while taking many proprietary variables into consideration renders a product which contains markedly more active constituents than other leading brands.
An average producer will process colonized materials at a 4 - 6 week mark, which ensure a maximum finished powder weight and unfortunately also ensure a minimum of fungal biomass and active constituents.
Our process runs at least 10 weeks, and depending on the species, often runs as long as 12 - 16 weeks. This creates a rich and industry defining product that customers can rely upon and trust.
This is uniquely possible in our cultivation procedures, due to our systematic vetting of wild harvested strains, and the length of time we allow our cultures to have access to fruiting conditions.
Agarikon can not be ethically harvested in the wild for human consumption and thus the only viable form of this special mushroom that is available to consume from this species is cultured mycelium.
Uniquely, Agarikon's hallowed biological activity has been observed in vitro with mycelium as the substance tested for activity. Our Agarikon has been ethically cloned from the wild and verified to be the species mentioned through genetic analysis testing.
Origins
"Agarikon" is the common name that Paul Stamets gave to the species Fomitopsis officinalis. This species has been recently taxonomically renamed Laricifomes officinalis, though the scientific names remain interchangeable.
The mushroom has been used by Indigenous humans near the pacific northwest and has been believed to be a protector of women’s sexuality. The Indigenous shamans also placed the mushroom over their graves for spiritual protection.
When looking at a tree with a fruit of Agarikon on it one can visualize a glow of mycelial life animating the visible tree internally.
Thus, when viewing the visible fruit of the Agarikon you can make a comparison to an apple on an apple tree.
The remarkable thing about this mushroom though is that it can grow to be as old as 50+ years before expiring.
Agarikon has been studied by the U.S. Army and The National Institute of Health (NIH) for its biological activity.
Lung, Respiratory and Immune Health
Agarikon contains active constituents known as coumarins that have received attention by researchers. These compounds help support the immune system and encourage optimal functioning of the lungs and respiratory system.
Joint Health, Healthy Inflammatory Response and Detoxification
Agarikon has been shown to support a healthy inflammatory response within the body, which helps encourage normal and healthy functioning of joints.
Agarikon has also shown biological activity in relation to neurotoxin VX.
Ways To Consume
Due to the extensive growing and cultivation process we use, our powders are less “dry” than other mushroom powders available.
The darker color of our powders result due to the extended growing process and the abundant presence of different active constituents.
Our powders go perfect in smoothies, juices, cereal and are especially delicious in yogurts. 2 grams per serving and 1-2 servings per day.
1 scoop is approximately 2000 mg (2 grams) Per 10 pounds of dogs and cats, suggested use is 500 mg (about 1/4th of a scoop)
For dogs and cats weighing less than 10 pounds, suggested use is 50 mg of mushroom powder per pound of body weight.
A dog weighing 30 pounds would be suggested at around 1500 mg or 3/4th of a scoop per serving per day.
Best mixed in with wet or fresh food. Suggested for pets to be used in combination with our Algae Oil DHA omega-3 oil, Organic Full Spectrum Hemp Oil and our Humic and Fulvic Acid.
