Questions

No. We believe the planned obsolescence economy is a fraud and should be stopped. The phones we are selling are used but in "mint" or "near mint" condition. Those which are not in as good of shape are priced accordingly. With nearly 15 billion mobile phones on the planet and a population of only 8 billion, there are an almost infinite supply of used phones in great condition that work extremely well. WE RECOMMEND YOU BUY A PHONE CASE TO KEEP IT SAFE!

No, the phone does NOT come with a SIM card. You must either insert the SIM card you have in your current device or order a new one directly with your service provider. We recommend going directly to the store of the local carrier with the best coverage and paying cash for a month / month plan that best suits your needs. This is the best way to ensure your phone and your account are as secure and untraceable as possible.

Each phone is CARRIER UNLOCKED such that any GSM Carrier will work. This includes AT&T, T-Mobile, Verizon, US Cellular, Consumer Cellular, Cricket, Google Fi, Metro PCS, Net10, Reach Mobile, Red Pocket, Simple Mobile, Spectrum, Straight Talk, Ting, Total by Verizon, TracFone, US Mobile, Visible, Xfinity. SPRINT WILL NOT WORK ON THIS DEVICE. PureTalk also works but you will have to manually enter the APN settings into the device for MMS and data functionality as they will not auto populate by installing the SIM card. We can provide a document with instructions on how to do this.

Check our forums for a more extensive Q&A: https://forums.mark37.com/forum/faq-8/topic/puretalk-activation-help-11/

If you use PureTalk as your cell carrier you may find your data does not work. You can make and receive phone calls but your MMS messages and data does not work.

To fix this you will need to enter some carrier information into your phone. This document provides the instructions to do this.

After you put your sim card in the phone you will need to enter some settings in order for your data to work.

Go to your phone settings, find Network & internet, then go to internet, open the gear icon to right side of your carrier name, should be Pure Talk, then at the very bottom open Access Point Names, then open the + sign on the top right.

You will then need to fill in the following fields with the following information. Needs to be entered exactly.

**Enter ONLY the following information: The fields that are empty must remain empty**

Name: Pure Talk
APN: RESELLER (note: must be all CAPS)
Proxy:
Port:
Username:
Password:
Server:
MMSC: http://mmsc.mobile.att.net (lowercase and no spaces) MMS: Proxy: proxy.mobile.att.net (lowercase and no spaces) MMS: Port: 80
MCC: 310
MNC: 410
Authentication type:
APN: Type: default, mms, supl (lowercase and no spaces) APN: protocol: IPv4/IPv6
APN: roaming protocol:IPv4/IPv6

Press the 3 dots at the top right, press save, select Pure TalkUSA by pressing the circle next to it and restart your phone. You should now have MMS and data service.

If their data still does not work after this double check that they entered the information exactly. There can be NO misspellings and it is case sensitive. If is still not working then they may need to call PureTalk and give them the IMEI number of their phone and ask for updated APN settings. If they want to know what kind of phone they have tell them a Pixel or Andriod phone. DO NOT tell them it is a deGoogled phone or a GrapheneOS phone. It will confuse them and they will probably tell you that they do support that kind of phone.

The IMEI number can be found under Settings, scroll to the bottom and select About phone, then find your IMEI number.

Ironically, yes, Google Pixel devices are among the most secure and private phones available. The Google Pixel, with the open source operating system GrapheneOS, provides optimum security and privacy. This is especially the case for Pixel devices prior to the Pixel 6, as Google began embedding their own custom hardware onto the device starting with the Pixel 6 and we simply do not trust that they did not also embed their own spyware within said hardware.

There are a few open source mobile operating systems such as LineageOS and CalyxOS however through our testing we have found GrapheneOS to be the most secure mobile operating system available. Unfortunately, it works specifically and only on Pixel devices at this time. Installation of GrapheneOS on other devices is experimental at best and will likely provide only limited functionality.

There are several credit cards that offer Cell Phone Protection in case you break your phone screen IF you pay for your phone service bill with you credit card. A quick Brave search will show you many credit card options that can cover your cell phone in case it breaks.

There are hundreds of apps available from various app-stores such as the 2 we have pre-loaded onto the device listed below that you can leverage to explore the world of open source. In fact, we encourage you to do so!

Below, is a list of all the apps we have pre-loaded onto the phone so you can remain productive throughout the day:

  • F-Droid – Your Free and Open Source (FOSS) app store.
  • Aurora Store - Alternative app store with most apps found through the Google Play Store.
  • Brave – One of the best web browsers currently on the market. Brave currently has the only fully independent web search engine not based on Google or Microsoft’s search indexes.
  • FFUpdater – An open-source browser repository... essentially an app store for browsers.
  • OsmAND+ - a maps app. (Will take some getting used to. Not as convenient as Google Maps, Apple Maps and Waze, etc but gets you to were you need to go.)
  • Magic Earth - another maps app.
  • Weather – An open weather app. (Need to register an account at http://openweather.org to receive a free API Key to work.)
  • ProtonMail – One of the better privacy respecting email providers currently available on the market. ProtonCalendar can also be downloaded from the app store if needed.
  • K-9 Mail – An open source email client.
  • Simple Calendar Pro – An open source calendar app.
  • Jitsi Meet – An open source video conference app.
  • Collabora Office – An open source office app providing the ability to open MSFT Office and LibreOffice files.
  • RadioDroid – An open-source internet radio app.
  • Voice Recorder – An open source voice recorder.
  • Joplin – An open source note taking app.
  • NewPipe – An open source media player and YouTube video parser.
  • Telegram FOSS – An open-source Telegram client.
  • Truth Social – Trumps social media app.
  • Odysee- A first amendment respecting block-chain based video platform. The best YouTube video platform on the web. Superior to Rumble, in our opinion, although Rumble has a larger user base.

Open source is a term that originally referred to open source software (OSS). Open source software is code that is designed to be publicly accessible—anyone can see, modify, and distribute the code as they see fit.

Open source software is developed in a decentralized and collaborative way, relying on peer review and community production. Open source software is often cheaper, more flexible, and has more longevity than its proprietary peers because it is developed by communities rather than a single author or company.

For more information on what open source is and its history, we recommend reading THIS.

GrapheneOS is the operating system for the phone. This is the equivalent to the iOS on Apple devices or Microsoft's "Windows" operating system on your computer. GrapheneOS took the base Android Open Source Project, which Google also used when building their "Google Android" operating system. GrapheneOS, however, unlike Google, prioritized security above all else. Although you may lose some of the creature comforts of Google's version of Android or Apple's iPhone, the vast majority of the standard Android features are present. If you are familiar with using the Google Android device, you will be very familiar with using the MARK37 Ghost phone.

The larger question you need to answer for yourself is this, "What is the price of convenience?" If you value a few creature comforts over your own personal freedom and security, well, then this phone, and this website, definitely isn't for you.

The Pixel phone uses a nano SIM which is the smallest and now the most widely used SIM card form factor. Should your SIM card simply NOT fit however, most mobile service providers will issue a new SIM card of the correct form factor free of charge. There are also SIM card cutters that will cut a larger sim card size to the smaller form factor which can be purchased online for @ $10. You could also try and use scissors and cut the SIM card to fit in the slot yourself, however, the this is not recommended due to the chances you may ruin the card in the process. Your best bet is to contact your service provider to see if they will send you a new one for free.

Notify us at support@mark37.com with the reason for your desire to return the phone w/in 30 days. If we can not help you work out your concern, we will send you a pre-paid return label. We can either ship another phone to you or provide a full refund.

Contacts can be transferred by a .vcf file. A few options to help you with this process can be found in the link by clicking HERE.

Yes. Go to any app store and install on both your current and new device the app "SMS Import / Export". Run and follow the simple prompts.

STOP FEEDING YOUR DATA TO GOOGLE AND APPLE. Local external hard drives have become relatively cheap lately. Connecting such a hard drive, or even a storage stick with a USB-C input, and going to Settings/System/Backup makes the process super simple.

In some cases, you most definitely can. You must ensure your phone is OEM unlocked, however, or the phone will not allow you to install a new operating system. For those willing and wanting to do the install on their own, www.grapheneos.org has detailed instructions to help you. There are dozens of videos online that will also help walk you through the process. If you have the time and patience to learn how to do this, we recommend you give it a try!

I had no clue an option like this even existed. There is a FOSS app or .apk available that can do everything the apps on my old smart phone were doing. There are app stores where I can still anonymously download what I need on the phone without Google accessing my user data. Why aren't more people using this kind of phone?
