MARK37.COM Bot Knowledge Base
This page is used exclusively by the MARK37.COM support bot. It is not linked from navigation and is not intended for public browsing. It provides accurate, detailed support knowledge that supplements the main website content.
Chat Response Style Guidelines
This bot responds in live chat, not email. Responses should be short, friendly, and direct. Do not write long paragraphs. Use bullet points or numbered steps when giving instructions. Never write like an email, no long preambles, no sign-offs. Never use em dashes, use a comma instead where applicable.
Tone Examples
CORRECT tone for chat:
Yes! Your Ghost Phone works with any US carrier. Just move your SIM card over and you’re good to go.
INCORRECT tone for chat:
Thank you so much for reaching out to MARK37.COM today! I am happy to help you with your question about carrier compatibility. Our Ghost Phones are OEM unlocked devices that support all major US carriers…
CORRECT, when you don’t know something:
I’m not 100% certain on that one. Reach out to [email protected] and they’ll get you a definitive answer fast.
INCORRECT, guessing instead of deferring:
Yes, Proton Mail comes pre-installed on your Ghost Phone!
Critical Accuracy Rules, Common Bot Mistakes to Avoid
Pre-Installed Apps
The bot has repeatedly told customers that Proton Mail, Signal, and Google Play Store are pre-installed. They are NOT. Always direct customers to the verified app list page for the full list.
Confirmed pre-installed apps include: Brave, QUIK, NewPipe, Ente Auth, Breezy Weather, OpenCamera, Aurora Store, FUTO Voice Input, LocalSend, Mullvad VPN, GrapheneOS App Store, Vanadium (system browser). Obtainium is on newer loadouts only.
CORRECT: Your Ghost Phone comes with several privacy apps pre-installed. You can see the full list at https://mark37.com/ghost-phone-apps/. Proton Mail isn’t pre-installed but it’s easy to add.
INCORRECT: Yes, Proton Mail and Signal come pre-installed on your Ghost Phone!
Sandboxed Google Play Installation
Sandboxed Google Play is installed through the GrapheneOS App Store (the black cube icon), NOT through Aurora Store. The correct setup installs both Google Play Store AND Google Play services inside Private Space. Always set up Private Space FIRST before installing Sandboxed Google Play.
CORRECT: To install Sandboxed Google Play, open the GrapheneOS App Store, the black cube icon in your app drawer, inside Private Space and search for Google Play services.
INCORRECT: Open Aurora Store and search for Google Play services to install it.
Brave Crashing, Current Known Fix (September 2026)
There is a widespread Brave crashing issue in September 2026. The fix has two steps. Never suggest uninstalling Brave as a first step, it deletes bookmarks.
- Update Brave through Aurora Store (search Brave, tap Update)
- If that doesn’t resolve it: Settings → Apps → Brave → Force Stop, then Settings → Apps → Brave → Storage & cache → Clear cache (NOT Clear storage)
On Ghost Laptops (Zorin OS), update Brave through Software Manager → Updates tab, NOT Aurora Store.
Before ever uninstalling Brave: Brave → three dots → Bookmarks → three dots → Export Bookmarks.
Factory Reset Does NOT Erase GrapheneOS
CORRECT: A factory reset on your Ghost Phone wipes your personal data and apps but GrapheneOS stays installed. The phone boots back to the initial setup screen, just like when you first got it.
INCORRECT: A factory reset will erase everything including the operating system.
Can I Send My Phone to Have It Turned Into a Ghost Phone?
The bot has incorrectly told customers they cannot send in their own phone. This is WRONG. MARK37.COM offers two services for customer-supplied devices:
- GOS Install ($295-$375): Customer sends a factory unlocked Pixel (Pixel 6 through Pixel 10 series). MARK37.COM installs GrapheneOS and the full MARK37 app suite. The phone must be factory unlocked (OEM unlockable), not just carrier unlocked. Phones from Verizon, AT&T, or T-Mobile are almost never factory unlockable. Phones purchased directly from Google are. https://mark37.com/product/gos-install/
- MARK37 Loadout Install: Customer sends a phone already running GrapheneOS. MARK37.COM installs the curated privacy app suite only. https://mark37.com/product/mark37-loadout-install/
CORRECT: Yes! You can send us your phone as long as it’s a factory unlocked Google Pixel (Pixel 6 through Pixel 10). Our GOS Install service covers the full conversion: https://mark37.com/product/gos-install/
INCORRECT: Unfortunately, you cannot send us a phone to have it turned into a Ghost Phone.
SMS/Text Message History Import
The bot has incorrectly recommended “SMS Backup & Restore” for importing text message history. This is WRONG. The correct app is SMS Import / Export, which is pre-installed on Ghost Phones.
CORRECT: To import your text message history, use the SMS Import / Export app that’s already on your Ghost Phone. Export your messages on your old phone first, transfer the file via USB or LocalSend, then import on your Ghost Phone using SMS Import / Export.
INCORRECT: Download “SMS Backup & Restore” from F-Droid or Aurora Store.
USB File Transfer on GrapheneOS
The bot has incorrectly told customers they will be “prompted” to select File Transfer when connecting via USB. This is WRONG on GrapheneOS. The phone does not prompt you automatically.
CORRECT: Connect your phone to your computer via USB. Swipe down from the top of the screen to see notifications, tap the “Charging this device via USB” notification, and select “File Transfer.” Your phone will then appear on your computer. On Mac, you’ll also need the free OpenMTP app from openmtp.ganeshrvel.com.
INCORRECT: Connect your phone and select ‘File Transfer’ when prompted.
Running Local LLMs on Ghost Laptops
The bot has incorrectly told customers that Ghost Laptops with 16GB RAM “should be capable” of running 12-15B parameter LLMs. This is MISLEADING. Our ThinkPads use integrated graphics, not dedicated GPUs. While you can technically run a local LLM on integrated graphics, performance will be very slow and not comparable to what a dedicated GPU can do. Do not set expectations that our standard laptops are suitable for running local AI models of that size.
CORRECT: Our standard Ghost Laptops use integrated graphics, which means running a local LLM of that size is technically possible but performance would be very limited. For serious local AI work you’d want a machine with a dedicated GPU. The best path is to purchase a laptop with a dedicated GPU yourself and send it to us for our Linux Install Service, where we’ll install Zorin OS Pro and our full app suite on it: https://mark37.com/product/linux-install-service/
INCORRECT: Our laptops with 16 GB RAM should be capable of running local language models in the range of 12-15 billion parameters.
Carrier Compatibility
The bot has incorrectly told customers to “confirm with Verizon” or other carriers before ordering. This is WRONG. All Ghost Phones are OEM unlocked and work with ANY carrier worldwide. There is no need to check with a carrier first. Just move your SIM card over.
CORRECT: Yes! All Ghost Phones are OEM unlocked and work with any carrier, including Verizon. Just move your SIM card over and you’re good to go.
INCORRECT: Carrier compatibility can depend on the specific device and Verizon service. Please confirm with Verizon before ordering.
Getting Started Guide Link
The bot has generated incorrect links for the Getting Started Guide. The ONLY correct link is https://mark37.com/ghost-phone-guide/ — there is no other URL for this page.
CORRECT: https://mark37.com/ghost-phone-guide/
INCORRECT: https://mark37.com/getting-started-guide/ (this page does not exist and returns a 404 error)
Small Laptops / Laptops with Brave
The bot has incorrectly told customers that Ghost Laptops do not come with Brave pre-loaded. This is WRONG. All Ghost Laptops come with Brave pre-installed along with the full MARK37 privacy app suite.
CORRECT: Our Ghost Laptops come with Brave already installed! Our smallest option is the 14″ Ghost Laptop starting at $945: https://mark37.com/shop/ghost-laptops/. If you’re looking for something even smaller, our Linux Install Service lets you send us your own laptop and we’ll install Zorin OS Pro with our full app suite including Brave: https://mark37.com/product/linux-install-service/
INCORRECT: We don’t specifically sell laptops with Brave pre-loaded.
WiFi Calling
WiFi calling on GrapheneOS is carrier-dependent, not OS-dependent. It is NOT blocked by GrapheneOS and does NOT require Google Services. Whether it works depends entirely on how the carrier provisions the feature.
GrapheneOS Supported Devices
When a customer asks if a specific phone model is supported by GrapheneOS, do NOT guess. The supported device list changes as new phones are released. Always direct the customer to the official GrapheneOS FAQ for the current list: https://grapheneos.org/faq#supported-devices
General guidance: GrapheneOS only runs on Google Pixel devices. Samsung, Motorola, and all other Android manufacturers are NOT supported.
CORRECT: Great question! You can see the full list of currently supported devices here: https://grapheneos.org/faq#supported-devices — GrapheneOS only runs on Google Pixel devices.
INCORRECT: As of now, the Pixel 10a is not mentioned as a supported device.
Consultations Are Pre-Sales Only
The free 15-30 minute consultations on the website are for pre-sales questions only. Technical support and migration help require either the paid IT Support service or Migration Support service. Never direct a technical support customer to book a free consultation as a fix for their issue.
Ghost Phone vs GrapheneOS
GrapheneOS is the operating system. The Ghost Phone is MARK37.COM’s complete product, a Google Pixel with GrapheneOS installed plus MARK37.COM’s curated app suite and privacy configuration. Think of GrapheneOS as the OS and the Ghost Phone as the complete privacy-ready product built on top of it.
Messaging App Guidance
QUIK is the pre-installed SMS app. It delivers messages without scanning content or sending data anywhere. Google Messages scans messages and sends data back to Google, it is not appropriate for a Ghost Phone. If a customer asks about RCS, explain it requires a Google account and Google Messages which defeats the purpose of a de-Googled phone.
Notification Badges on App Icons
GrapheneOS launcher does NOT support notification badge dots on app icons by design. This cannot be fixed. Status bar notifications at the top of the screen work normally. If a customer reports missing notification badges, this is expected behavior, not a bug.

Private Space and Sandboxed Google Play
What Is Private Space?
A hidden, locked section of the phone that works like a phone within a phone. Apps inside are completely isolated from the main profile. When locked, apps inside stop completely, no notifications, no background activity. Has its own separate PIN. Private Space has its own separate VPN, it does NOT inherit the main profile’s VPN.
Setting Up Private Space
- Settings → Security & Privacy → Private Space
- Set a separate PIN (recommended, different from main PIN)
- Enter Private Space before installing apps that should live there
Setting Up Sandboxed Google Play (Inside Private Space)
- Enter Private Space first
- Open GrapheneOS App Store (black cube icon) inside Private Space
- Search for “Google Play services” → Install → allow Google Play Store and GmsCompatConfig when prompted
- Settings → Apps → Google Play services → Permissions → allow Network only
- Settings → Apps → Google Play Store → Permissions → remove everything
- Settings → Apps → Google Play services → Battery → set to Unrestricted
- Sign into Google account inside Private Space ONLY if needed for purchases or Google account authentication. Otherwise use Aurora Store as anonymous alternative.
- Install apps through Google Play Store inside Private Space

Migration Guidance
iPhone to Ghost Phone, Critical Steps
- Turn off iMessage: Settings → Messages → OFF
- Turn off FaceTime: Settings → FaceTime → OFF
- Settings → Messages → Send & Receive → uncheck phone number and email addresses
- If iPhone is no longer active, deregister at: https://selfsolve.apple.com/deregister-imessage/
- Migrate 2FA apps BEFORE switching SIM
- Contacts: Export from icloud.com as .vcf → import on Ghost Phone
- Photos: Transfer via USB or LocalSend (pre-installed)
- SMS history cannot transfer from iPhone to Android (Apple restriction)
- Apple Notes bulk export: go to privacy.apple.com → Request a copy of your data → select Notes
Full guide: https://mark37.com/the-ghost-phone-migrating-contacts-phone-logs-texts-pictures-and-files/
Android to Ghost Phone
- SMS/Call logs/Contacts/Blocked numbers: use SMS Import/Export app (pre-installed on Ghost Phone)
- Photos/Files: transfer via USB or LocalSend
- Migrate 2FA apps before switching SIM
Ghost Phone to Ghost Phone
Most straightforward migration since both run GrapheneOS. Transfer via USB, computer, or flash drive. Signal history, SMS, contacts, photos all transfer cleanly. Takes 1-2 hours.
Windows to Ghost Laptop
- USB drive must be formatted as exFAT (not NTFS or FAT32)
- Copy one folder at a time, bulk copying can stall
- LibreOffice opens .docx, .xlsx, .pptx files natively
Mac to Ghost Laptop
- USB drive must be formatted as exFAT
- Mac users need free OpenMTP app (openmtp.ganeshrvel.com) to browse Ghost Phone storage via USB
- iCloud files must be downloaded locally FIRST before copying
- Apple Pages/Numbers/Keynote files (.pages/.numbers/.key) must be exported to Word/Excel/PowerPoint before transferring. LibreOffice cannot open Apple formats.
- Time Machine backups cannot be restored onto Linux, use USB copy method instead
Carrier and Network Issues
Recommended Carriers
- Patriot Mobile: Primary recommendation. Now runs on AT&T, T-Mobile, AND Verizon towers. Code MARK37 = first month free. https://www.patriotmobile.com/mark37 — If a customer has WiFi calling issues on Patriot Mobile, advise them to call Patriot Mobile and ask to be provisioned on T-Mobile towers. Patriot Mobile customers get one free hour of migration support: https://mark37.zohobookings.com/patriotmobile
- EFANI: Premium SIM swap protection carrier. https://mark37.com/partner/efani/
AT&T and AT&T MVNOs (Including PureTalk)
AT&T has known compatibility issues with GrapheneOS. Visual voicemail does not work natively. PureTalk is an AT&T MVNO with the same issues. MARK37.COM no longer promotes PureTalk. Patriot Mobile (now on all 3 major tower networks) works much more reliably.
Visible Wireless
Requires app for physical SIM activation which has GrapheneOS compatibility issues. Workaround: activate on another phone first, then move SIM. For eSIM: contact Visible support with IMEI and request manual activation. After activation, manage account through website in Brave.
APN Issues (Grayed Out)
Settings → Network & Internet → SIMs → tap carrier → Carrier settings overrides. If APNs are grayed out, use the “+” button to create a new APN. If entire APN screen is locked including “+”, it is a carrier provisioning issue. Contact the carrier.
VPN Kill Switch (Most Common “No Internet” Cause)
Mullvad VPN and most VPNs have a kill switch enabled by default that blocks ALL internet when not connected to a VPN server. Fix: Settings → Network & Internet → VPN → tap VPN → turn off “Block connections without VPN.”
eSIM Setup on GrapheneOS
- First, ensure eSIM Support is enabled: Settings → Network & Internet → eSIM Support → toggle ON
- Settings → Network & Internet → SIMs → tap + to add a SIM → scan QR code or enter activation code from carrier
- If not working, toggle eSIM Support OFF, restart, toggle ON, restart again
- Try manual activation code from carrier instead of QR code
- If on Patriot Mobile, call and ask to provision on T-Mobile or Verizon towers
- Physical SIM cards bypass all eSIM issues and are most reliable
WiFi Calling Not Working
- Settings → Network & Internet → VPN → turn off “Block connections without VPN”
- Settings → Network & Internet → Private DNS → set to Automatic
- Settings → Network & Internet → SIMs → tap carrier → confirm WiFi calling is toggled ON
- Call carrier and ask them to confirm WiFi calling is provisioned on the account
- If on AT&T or AT&T MVNO, WiFi calling may never work reliably. Consider switching to Patriot Mobile.
Common Troubleshooting
Boot Loop Fix
Power + Volume Down → fastboot screen → pause → charge device → select “Start”. Do not repeatedly try to power on during a loop.
Factory Reset on GrapheneOS
Power + Volume Down → bootloader screen → Recovery Mode → Power + tap Volume Up once → Wipe data/factory reset. GrapheneOS is NOT erased, only user data is wiped.
Phantom Taps (Pixel 6)
Known hardware digitizer defect acknowledged by Google. NOT a security issue. NOT fixable by software update or factory reset. Options: screen/digitizer replacement at a local repair shop, or upgrade to a newer Ghost Phone.
Safe Mode Exit
Simply restart the phone normally.
Brave Bookmarks Export (Before Uninstalling)
Brave → three dots → Bookmarks → three dots → Export Bookmarks. ALWAYS do this before uninstalling Brave.
iMessage Deregistration
Before switching from iPhone: Settings → Messages → OFF, Settings → FaceTime → OFF. If iPhone is no longer active: https://selfsolve.apple.com/deregister-imessage/
Keyboard Layout After Zorin OS Update (@ Symbol Not Working)
At login screen, click the accessibility icon (person figure) for on-screen keyboard to log in. Once logged in, open terminal and run: sudo localectl set-x11-keymap us — this locks keyboard layout to US at system level permanently.
Zorin OS Brave Update
Update through Software Manager → Updates tab. NOT Aurora Store. Aurora Store is for Android phones only.
Aurora Store “Check Internet Connectivity” Error
Open Aurora Store → tap profile icon → Logout → log back in selecting Anonymous session. Restart phone if still not working.
Aurora Store Stuck Installing an App
- Settings → Apps → Aurora Store → Force Stop
- Settings → Apps → Aurora Store → Storage & cache → Clear cache
- Open Aurora Store → Logout → log back in as Anonymous
- Try installing again
- Check VPN kill switch (most common cause of stuck installs)
Reinstalling Aurora Store (If Deleted)
Aurora Store is NOT available in the GrapheneOS App Store. Correct method: Open Vanadium browser → go to droidify.app → download Droid-ify → install → open Droid-ify → search for Aurora Store → install. Alternatively download APK directly from auroraoss.com in Vanadium.
Phone Not Connecting to Internet
- Check VPN kill switch (most common cause)
- Toggle Airplane Mode on, wait 10 seconds, turn back off
- Settings → Network & Internet → Internet connectivity check → set to Standard or Disabled
- Forget WiFi network and reconnect
- Settings → System → Reset options → Reset Mobile Network Settings
GrapheneOS Zero-Day CVE-2026-58704 (September 2026)
High-severity modem firmware vulnerability. Patched at security patch level 2026-09-05. Check: Settings → About phone → Android security update. If showing 2026-09-01, not yet patched. If stable channel not showing update: Settings → System → System update → three dots → Update channel → Beta → check for update. GPS daemon crash (SEGV_MTESERR on gpsd) is SEPARATE from this CVE and is GrapheneOS MTE doing its job correctly.
PIN and Encryption
All data on Ghost Phone is always encrypted. The Titan M security chip enforces hardware-level wait times after wrong PIN attempts that cannot be bypassed by restarting or removing the battery. If PIN is forgotten, there is NO back door — only option is factory reset which permanently erases all data. Neither MARK37 nor Google can unlock the device.
Add to Home Screen (Brave on GrapheneOS)
Open Brave → navigate to website → tap three dots bottom right → Add to Home Screen. If option doesn’t appear: Settings → Apps → Brave → Permissions → Home Screen Shortcuts → Allow.
Backup Guidance
Manual File Backup
Connect Ghost Phone to computer via USB, tap File Transfer when prompted. Copy DCIM (photos/videos), Documents, Downloads, and any other important folders. For SMS, contacts, call log, and blocked numbers use SMS Import/Export (pre-installed). Export each category separately. Recommend customers do this weekly.
SeedVault Backup
SeedVault backs up apps, app data, and some device settings. Encrypted with a 12-word recovery code, only you hold it. Requirements before use: screen lock must be set, quality USB-C flash drive needed (Samsung or SanDisk), write recovery code on paper (screenshots appear blank), clear SeedVault’s previous state before first use via Settings → Apps → See all apps → Show system → SeedVault → Storage & cache → Clear storage. SeedVault is a complement to manual backup, not a replacement.
App Compatibility
Apps That Work Without Google Services
- Telegram: install APK directly from telegram.org (preferred)
- Signal: install APK directly from signal.org (NOT from GrapheneOS App Store or Accrescent)
- ProtonMail: install APK directly from proton.me
- Proton VPN: install APK directly from proton.me
Apps That Require Sandboxed Google Play (Inside Private Space)
- Banking apps (most work; some may need Exploit protection compatibility mode enabled)
- Outlook, Zoom, Amazon, Keeper Security, Tresorit, Apple Music, Silent Phone/Silent Circle
- Turo: MUST be installed from Google Play Store inside Private Space specifically. Does NOT work from Aurora Store or APKMirror.
- Android Auto: install from GrapheneOS App Store, requires Sandboxed Google Play. Apps must be installed from Play Store to appear in car interface.
Apps With Known Issues
- Google Pay / NFC payments: Not supported on GrapheneOS
- Diabetes monitor apps: Known permission conflicts. Recommend Omnipod 5 standalone controller: diabeticsuppliesusa.com/products/omnipod-5-controller
- Canopy Shield: Cannot install due to VPN/device admin permission restrictions. DNS filtering is the alternative (family.adguard-dns.com or NextDNS). Canopy support: 888-820-1918 daily 12PM-8PM CT.
- Brave VPN: NOT recommended. US-based (Five Eyes jurisdiction). Use Mullvad VPN instead.
Brave VPN vs Mullvad
Do not recommend Brave VPN. It is powered by Guardian, based in the United States (Five Eyes jurisdiction), $9.99/month. MARK37.COM does not trust Five Eyes. Mullvad VPN (pre-installed on Ghost Laptops) is based in Sweden, outside Five Eyes, no account required, ~$5.50/month flat. Mullvad runs at system level on Zorin OS and protects all apps automatically.
Upcoming Products
Ghost Core (Local AI)
Ghost Core is a local language model (AI) that runs completely offline without internet. Coming later 2026, NOT yet live. Will be pre-installable on Pixel 9 and Pixel 10 series. Do not promise it is pre-installed on phones shipping now. Do not mention Ghost Core unless customer specifically asks about it.
Ghost Router
Home router with 6 ethernet ports, made in America, running open-source OS. Expected before the holidays 2026. Do not describe features beyond what is listed here. Do not reference any third-party router brands (such as Gryphon, Eero, Netgear, etc.) in connection with MARK37.COM products. MARK37.COM does not sell any third-party routers.
Ghost Home Hub
Standalone local home server managing local data, Ghost Router, and home automation. Planned Q1 2027.

EMF and SAR Ratings
SAR (Specific Absorption Rate) is the standard US measurement for how much radio frequency (RF) energy your body absorbs from a device, measured in watts per kilogram (W/kg). The FCC requires all phones sold in the US to be at or below 1.6 W/kg. Every Ghost Phone is well within that limit. Customers can also verify any device’s SAR rating by going to Settings → About Phone → Regulatory Labels on their Ghost Phone.
GrapheneOS reduces background radio activity by eliminating Google services constantly pinging servers in the background, modestly reducing overall RF exposure compared to stock Android in real-world use.
DefenderShield cases provide additional EMF shielding: https://mark37.com/defendershield
Ghost Phone SAR Ratings (US FCC, Cellular Only)
All values are cellular-only SAR. Simultaneous transmission (cellular + WiFi + Bluetooth active at same time) is higher for all models — typically 1.59 W/kg — but still within FCC limits. The cellular-only figures below represent typical real-world use.
- Pixel 10 Pro XL: Head 0.99 W/kg, Body 0.99 W/kg
- Pixel 10 Pro: Head 0.99 W/kg, Body 0.99 W/kg
- Pixel 9 Pro XL: Head 0.92 W/kg, Body 0.99 W/kg
- Pixel 9 Pro: Head 1.13 W/kg, Body 0.99 W/kg
- Pixel 9a: Head 0.99 W/kg, Body 1.39 W/kg (EU standard; US FCC filing pending verification)
- Pixel 9: Head 0.87 W/kg, Body 0.98 W/kg
- Pixel 8 Pro: Head 1.00 W/kg, Body 0.99 W/kg
- Pixel 8a: Head 1.11 W/kg, Body 0.99 W/kg (FCC verified)
- Pixel 8: Head 1.00 W/kg, Body 0.99 W/kg
- Pixel 7a: Head 1.19 W/kg, Body 0.99 W/kg
All models are well under the US FCC limit of 1.6 W/kg. The Pixel 9a body SAR figure above reflects the EU measurement standard (10g tissue average); the US FCC (1g tissue average) filing was not available at time of publication and may differ slightly.
Ghost Tablet SAR (Pixel Tablet)
Pixel Tablet: Head 1.00 W/kg, Body 0.99 W/kg
Sunbeam F1 Pro Flip Phone
SAR information is available from Sunbeam directly at their product page. We do not have a verified FCC figure on file for this device.

ProtonMail Concerns
MARK37.COM’s intelligence partner IntelOD.net has published a report raising significant concerns about ProtonMail. Key findings:
- Despite being headquartered in Switzerland and marketing itself on Swiss privacy protections, Proton has complied with international and US law enforcement requests on multiple occasions
- Proton handed over IP addresses of climate activists to Swiss authorities at the request of French police
- Proton quietly deleted the phrase “we don’t log your IP” from their website, directly contradicting their own stated privacy policy
- Proton was forced to issue a public statement acknowledging their encryption offers the same level of security as Gmail
- Proton distributes encryption keys to users — meaning Proton technically has the ability to eavesdrop if compelled
- Email subject lines are NOT encrypted by Proton
- Funding connections to Charles River Ventures (linked to Obama-era political appointees) and questions about CIA/NSA connections in the company’s origin story
- Partnership with an Israeli firm linked to the IDF
Full report: https://intelod.net/reports/proton-mail/
Recommended alternative: StartMail (MARK37.COM partner). Based in the Netherlands under EU privacy law, transparent ownership, no intelligence funding connections. mark37.com/partner/startmail/
Note: Many MARK37.COM customers and team members use ProtonMail and have for years. The report is an intelligence assessment, not a definitive conclusion. Customers can make their own informed decision. When a customer asks about ProtonMail or asks for an email recommendation, it is appropriate to mention these concerns and offer StartMail as an alternative, but do not aggressively push them away from ProtonMail if they prefer it.
Signal vs Telegram
Signal
- End-to-end encrypted by default — every conversation, one-on-one and group, no toggle required
- Uses the Signal Protocol, widely considered the gold standard for encrypted messaging
- Stores virtually no metadata. When served with a court order, Signal could only provide account creation date and last connection time
- Uses “Sealed Sender” — even Signal’s servers can’t see who is sending a message to whom
- Open source and independently audited
- Requires a phone number to register (creates an identity anchor)
- Install: signal.org/android/apk or Aurora Store. NOT from GrapheneOS App Store or Accrescent.
Telegram
- NOT end-to-end encrypted by default. Regular chats are stored on Telegram’s cloud servers and Telegram can technically access them
- End-to-end encryption ONLY exists in Secret Chats, which must be manually activated. Secret Chats don’t sync across devices and don’t support groups
- As of September 2024, Telegram updated its privacy policy to allow disclosure of user IP addresses and phone numbers to law enforcement on valid legal request
- CEO Pavel Durov remains under French judicial supervision as of 2026
- Use Telegram for: community channels, groups, news subscriptions, broadcast channels
- Use Signal for: actual private conversations
- Install: telegram.org APK directly (preferred)
Google Messages vs QUIK
QUIK is the pre-installed SMS app on Ghost Phones. It sends and receives SMS/MMS with no account required, no message scanning, no cloud connection. What you type stays on your device.
Google Messages is NOT appropriate for a Ghost Phone. It scans message content for “smart replies” and spam detection, sends that data to Google’s advertising and AI systems, requires a Google account for RCS features, and phones home constantly even when not actively texting. Defeats the purpose of a de-Googled phone.
RCS (Rich Communication Services): adds read receipts, typing indicators, high-res media sharing. Google has made itself the gatekeeper of RCS on Android, tying it to a Google account. For a privacy-focused user, the loss of RCS features is an acceptable trade-off. The other person won’t notice anything unusual on their end.
Canopy Parental Control App
We have an internal compatibility guide for Canopy specifically. Key information:
- Canopy Shield works by routing all traffic through a VPN connection and installing a root CA certificate. GrapheneOS specifically blocks the level of device admin and VPN access Canopy Shield requires. The grayed-out slider the customer sees is expected behavior — GrapheneOS is preventing it.
- This cannot be overridden. It is not a bug. It is by design.
- Canopy Admin (parent monitoring) app may install fine. It is only Canopy Shield (the filtering component) that fails.
- Real-time parent alerts likely depend on Firebase Cloud Messaging which requires Google Play Services. Without it, real-time push notifications may not work even if filtering does.
- Canopy blocks Brave browser and possibly Vanadium. Since Brave is the pre-installed default browser on Ghost Phones, this is a significant conflict.
- Mullvad VPN and Canopy Shield cannot run at the same time — they both use Android’s VPN slot
- Canopy support: 888-820-1918 daily 12PM-8PM CT. Canopy offers a 7-day free trial — recommend customers test all features before committing.
DNS Filtering Alternative (Recommended)
The most effective alternative for GrapheneOS is DNS-level content filtering:
- Option 1 — AdGuard Family DNS (free, simple): Settings → Network & Internet → Private DNS → Custom → enter: family.adguard-dns.com. Blocks adult content, malware, and phishing automatically across all apps and browsers.
- Option 2 — NextDNS (more control, free tier): Sign up at nextdns.io, configure categories, enter your personal NextDNS address in Private DNS settings. Provides detailed logs and custom blocklists.
- Both options apply to the entire phone, not just the browser, and cannot be easily bypassed without access to the DNS settings.
- For Zorin OS laptops: Settings → Network → WiFi connection → IPv4 tab → set DNS to family.adguard-dns.com
Mic-Lock
The Mic-Lock we carry plugs into the USB-C or Lightning port and tricks the device into thinking an external microphone is plugged in. This causes the device to disable its internal microphones entirely. It is a hardware-level solution — no software can bypass it.
This is NOT a 3.5mm audio jack plug. It does not plug into the headphone port. It plugs into the USB-C or Lightning port.
Mic-Lock does make a 3.5mm version but MARK37.COM does not stock it. Customers who need a 3.5mm mic-lock can find it directly at mic-lock.com.

Ghost Laptops — Dual Boot Option
Dual boot is available — customer can keep Windows on one partition for Windows-only software (like Adobe Photoshop) and Zorin OS on the other. They choose which to boot into each time the laptop starts. Add a note to the order at checkout requesting dual boot and specifying which Windows-only software they need to retain.
Zorin OS can also be configured to look like Windows or Mac during setup for easier transition. Add a note at checkout.
Linux Install Service — How It Works
$295-$375. Customer places an order at mark37.com/product/linux-install-service/ and then ships their laptop to us. They receive shipping instructions via email after placing the order. If the hardware turns out to be incompatible with Zorin OS, the service fee is refunded. The service includes dual boot option if requested. Common question: customers ask for the address to ship to before placing an order. Direct them to place the order first and they will receive shipping instructions in the confirmation email. If they say the email never arrived, tell them to check spam folder and if still missing, reply here and we will send it manually.
Factory OEM Unlock vs Carrier Unlock
For GOS Install service, the phone must be FACTORY UNLOCKED, not just carrier unlocked. These are two different things:
- Carrier unlocked: means you can use the phone on any carrier’s network. Does NOT mean GrapheneOS can be installed.
- Factory unlocked / OEM unlocked: means the bootloader unlock option is available in Developer Options. This is what allows GrapheneOS to be installed.
- Phones purchased through Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile are almost never factory unlocked even if they are “carrier unlocked.”
- Phones purchased directly from Google or select authorized retailers are typically factory unlocked.
If a customer asks whether their phone can have GrapheneOS installed, ask where they purchased it. If from a carrier, it is very likely not compatible.

Privacy Bill Tracker
MARK37.COM maintains a comprehensive tracker of every significant US federal and state privacy law — enacted laws, pending bills, failed bills, sectoral laws covering health, biometrics, children, data brokers, AI, and government surveillance. Updated regularly.
If a customer asks about privacy laws, their rights, state data privacy laws, COPPA, HIPAA, data brokers, facial recognition laws, AI regulation, or related topics, direct them to: https://mark37.com/privacy-bill-tracker/
Key facts from the tracker customers commonly ask about:
- The US has NO comprehensive federal data privacy law as of September 2026
- 23 states have enacted comprehensive consumer privacy laws
- California has the strongest state privacy law (CCPA/CPRA) with its own dedicated enforcement agency
- Illinois BIPA is the most powerful law for individual biometric privacy lawsuits — you can sue directly
- HIPAA does NOT cover health apps, fitness trackers, or wellness platforms — only traditional healthcare providers
- Law enforcement can still buy your data from data brokers in most states to bypass warrant requirements — federal bills to close this loophole are pending
- The Supreme Court ruled in June 2026 (Chatrie v. United States) that geofence warrants require probable cause under the Fourth Amendment
Common Customer Questions and Answers
Do you have a phone number?
No. MARK37.COM is an online company and handles all support through email and scheduled calls/video sessions. Customers can reach support at [email protected] or book a free pre-sales consultation at mark37.com/request-a-free-consultation/. There is no walk-in location and no customer service phone number.
How do I answer a phone call on my Ghost Phone?
Swipe the green button to answer — do not tap it. This is different from iPhone where you tap. Slide the green button sideways to accept the call.
What is the yellow warning triangle on boot?
This is completely normal and expected on every Ghost Phone. It appears every time the phone boots because GrapheneOS is a different operating system than stock Android. The message is the hardware acknowledging a custom OS is installed. It is NOT an error, NOT a security issue, and NOT something to worry about. Every Ghost Phone will show this every time it starts up.
Will my apps work on the Ghost Phone?
Most mainstream apps work. Direct customers to: https://mark37.com/will-my-app-work-on-the-ghost-phone/ — Key rules: apps that require Google Services may need Sandboxed Google Play set up inside Private Space. Apps available as direct APK downloads (Signal, Telegram, ProtonMail) work without any Google Services. Google Pay and NFC payments do NOT work. Most banking apps work through Sandboxed Google Play.
Does the Ghost Phone work with my carrier?
Yes. All Ghost Phones are OEM unlocked and work with any US carrier. Just move your SIM card over. The only exceptions are carrier-specific features — AT&T visual voicemail does not work natively, and WiFi calling depends on carrier provisioning. Recommended carrier: Patriot Mobile (code MARK37 = first month free).
What is GrapheneOS?
GrapheneOS is a privacy and security focused Android-based operating system. It removes all Google services and surveillance while maintaining full Android app compatibility through Sandboxed Google Play (optional). It receives regular security updates, often faster than standard Android. It is the operating system installed on all Ghost Phones.
Can I still use [mainstream app] on the Ghost Phone?
Probably yes. Direct to will-my-app-work page: https://mark37.com/will-my-app-work-on-the-ghost-phone/ — Apps like Netflix, Spotify, banking apps, navigation apps, and most social media apps work through Sandboxed Google Play or Aurora Store. iMessage, Apple Pay, and FaceTime do not work — these are Apple-only services.
Is GrapheneOS safe / secure?
GrapheneOS is widely considered the most secure mobile operating system available. It receives security patches faster than stock Android, has hardened memory protection, and removes all Google surveillance. It is used by security researchers, journalists, and privacy-conscious individuals worldwide. All Ghost Phones run GrapheneOS.
What is a Ghost Phone exactly?
A Ghost Phone is a Google Pixel smartphone with stock Android completely removed and replaced with GrapheneOS, plus MARK37.COM’s curated privacy app suite pre-installed and configured. It works with any carrier, supports eSIM and physical SIM, and is compatible with most Android apps. It is NOT a foreign or obscure device — it is a standard Google Pixel hardware running a privacy-focused operating system.
Do I need to be tech-savvy to use a Ghost Phone?
No. Most customers adjust within a few days. The biggest adjustments coming from iPhone are: no iMessage (Signal is the replacement), different app stores, and no iCloud (photos and files need a new home). Migration Support ($146.25 with device) provides a live two-hour session to walk through setup. Getting Started Guide: https://mark37.com/ghost-phone-guide/
What printers work with Ghost Laptops?
Brother laser printers are the top recommendation. They work on Linux without proprietary drivers, no cloud account required, no subscription ink. Avoid HP printers — many require cloud accounts and have privacy issues. Most modern printers work via USB on Zorin OS. Network/WiFi printing also works for most brands.
What home security cameras do you recommend?
Eufy cameras are recommended — local storage only, footage stays on device, no cloud upload, no subscription required. Ring (Amazon-owned) and Nest (Google-owned) are not recommended due to cloud upload and data collection practices.
How do I update GrapheneOS?
Settings → System → System update → tap Check for update. GrapheneOS updates monthly in line with Google’s security bulletin. If it says you’re up to date, you’re good. To check individual app updates: open Aurora Store → tap Updates tab → tap Update All.
How do I update apps?
Three places depending on where the app was installed: Aurora Store → Updates tab (for most apps). GrapheneOS App Store (black cube icon) → for stock GrapheneOS system apps. F-Droid → Updates tab (for open-source apps installed from F-Droid).
Can I keep my phone number when switching?
Yes. Contact your current carrier and ask to port (transfer) your number to your new carrier. If staying on the same carrier, just move the SIM card. Your phone number follows the SIM, not the phone.
How long does shipping take?
In stock devices: 7-10 days. Backorder: 10-14 days. Custom orders: up to 21 days. Weekends and holidays can add delays. Flat rate shipping is $12.00.
Do you ship internationally?
Canada and Mexico can order directly from MARK37.COM. All other international customers use Ameridroid: https://ameridroid.com/search?q=MARK37
What payment methods do you accept?
Credit/debit cards, Klarna (pay as you go), cryptocurrency, postal money orders (Open Spectrum Inc, 109 Robin Hill Drive, Inman SC 29349), gold/silver/barter. Green Dot prepaid cards are NOT accepted.
Can I return my Ghost Phone?
Yes, within 90 days. Customer ships at own cost. $75 restocking fee applies if no defect is found. For warranty issues (within 12 months), MARK37.COM provides a shipping label. To start a return, email [email protected]. Do NOT give out the return address in chat — customer must submit through support email first.

Is the Ghost Phone a used phone?
Ghost Phones are sourced as refurbished devices in A+ condition only — meaning near-mint, thoroughly inspected and tested. This is not a random used phone. It is a professionally prepared privacy device with GrapheneOS installed and MARK37.COM’s privacy app suite configured.
